Wirecast is a user-friendly streaming program. It makes it possible for users to achieve a professional look without a professional budget. Everything can be done by a single person, eliminating the need for outside help or management. It can be used to create effects and live mixing, resulting in a very polished video. Not only that, but the streaming system can be expanding with the introduction of external equipment. However, the program's support with external equipment to read video varies.

One or two cameras can be used during a live stream. These two feeds can be mixed together on the fly. Users can also create specific paths to dictate where a particular feed goes. From there, live transitions and automatic cropping can be performed. The software provides ultimate control in what the audience sees.

The user interface is relatively simple, but it does take a bit of streaming knowledge to make the most out of the many features. Most of the work is done on the bottom of the window. A large window displays what the viewers are seeing. The numerous controls are found on the left side. Users can manipulate the audio, add various effects to specific parts of the screen and add text. These controls can be set to AutoLive as well, allowing the user to create a live stream without having to worry about making changes in real time.
